Crested Gecko Basics

Crested Gecko Basics

For those who don't know, I'm a proud crestie mama of a little boy named Ollivander. He is my sun and stars, my baby first born, and the light of my life. Never did I ever imagine that such a tiny soul would make me so happy. Sometimes the thought of an animal living up to 20 something years is intimidating for me, but I only feel joy knowing I will have my Ollie for that long. 15 more years or so together and I will love every moment!

Here are some of my favorite things that I've come to rely on for Crested Gecko care over the years:

Pangea gecko food: Experts in the world of crested geckos, veterinarians included, prefer this food over the other leading brands including Repashy. I like to rotate out different flavors for Ollie each month, and get the most use out of the small 2 oz bags.

Pangea biodegradable disposable food cups: we fruit eating gecko guardians go thro ugh a lot of single use cups with our babies. I've tried to use ceramic or plastic cups but the dried meal is SO hard to scrub off. For years I've been utilizing these biodegradable cups for Ollie and feel less guilty about my single use plastics.

Vines & leaves : geckos love to hide and climb! Ollie loves his plant leaves and this twisted rope to climb up to his food bowl.

Chemical free toothbrush: I use this to scrub an d clean Ollie's tank out on cleaning day.

Exo Terra 24x18x36: one of the most common and the smallest possible tank that is humane for an adult Crestie to live in. They need more height than width in their tanks and plenty of room for jumping!

Hooded bulb fixture & timer : if you need assistance keeping the room at proper temperatures for your gecko, this light fixture is the ticket.

Reptile carpet or forest floor : different keepers have different preferences on what they want for floor substrate. I personally use a carpet for Ollie as I don't want him to ingest any dirt. However it's tricker to clean than a dirt floor and some people might say it's harder to hold humidity. At the end of the day it's up to you.

Thermometer & humidity gauge: essential and extremely he lpful for every reptile keeper. I highly recommend digital sensors you can move around the tank for accurate readings in all corners.

Life with a Crested is like no other. I promise you'll become so attached to their beautiful little souls!
