It's been raining out all day, and it's important to limit your dog's physical activity in this weather. Wet grass can lead to slips and ACL tears, which no one wants to have to endure. So when you and your dog are housebound or can't run after a ball, here are some things to get your dog through the day without getting into the garbage: 

1. Popsicles! Stuff a kong or a hollow marrow bone with peanut butter, cream cheese, or wet dog food and toss it in the freezer. In a few hours let your dog enjoy a snack that will take them a while to get through. 

2. Puzzle toys! My favorite brand is Nina Ottossan. Hide kibb le or shredded cheese in different compartments and watch your dog open them up to find the prize. 

3. Snuffle mats! Toss a few old towels into a laundry basket and drop a handful of kibble or cheese in before shaking it around. Let your dog root around in the basket and find the prize. 

4. Utilize an empty dog park! Take a trip outside in the rain to the dog park, I promise you no one will be there. All those fun smells and places to mark will be such fun for your dog, even if they don't use the park when it's sunny out. Plus it's fenced in! 

5. Teach your dog a new trick! AKC has a trick dog title you can work up to, or if you'd just prefer to browse their list of tutorials you always can just add one more to the lineup. 

All of these things will entertain your dog, not take a ton of time out of your busy day, and work their brain enough to keep them satiated until the sun comes out again. Have fun!
